What’s in a name?

May 9th, 2012

What to name your newborn child? It’s one of the most agonising, terrifying but exciting decisions you’ll ever make, keeping you up for endless nights as you trawl every baby name book you can get your hands on. And if we think it’s bad for us mere mortals, imagine what a weighty task it is if you’re a celebrity, knowing that the world and his dog will be picking apart your choice at dinner parties, in the media and across Twitter?

Celebrities sometimes get it wrong when choosing baby names, but they can also make brave choices that give their mini-me a headstart in the race to be the coolest tot on the block.

Peaches Geldof and Thomas Cohen named their baby son Astala. British rocker Matt Belamy (from Muse) and Kate Hudson opted for Bingham ‘Bing’ Hawn for their son, and The Feeling’s bassist Richard Jones and wife Sophie Ellis-Bexter named their third son Ray Holiday.

The achingly hip list of boys’ names doesn’t stop there. Hilary Duff’s son goes by the name Luca Cruise Comrie, and Westlife’s Kian Egan’s son rocks Koa for a moniker. Actors are a bohemian bunch, who love to be kooky in their name choices – perfectly illustrated by Billie Piper and Laurence Fox’s son Eugene Pip.

Then the pap-worthy princesses don’t disappoint either. We’re loving kooky Mabel Ray for Bruce Willis’s daughter, Lily Allen’s little girl Ethel Mary embraces blue-rinse-chic, and Una Healey (from girl band ‘The Saturdays’ picked a winner in Aoife Belle Foden.

And who can forget those baby girls who topped the celebrity A List babies in 2011 – Blue Ivy Carter, daughter of celebrity royalty Beyonce and Jay Z, and the Beckhams’ long-awaited daughter Harper Seven?

These are all names to wear with pride, so how best to preserve them than with a stand-up-and-be-counted piece of personalised kids clothing as bought for some of the most famous children on the planet! Personalised baby clothes make a great gift for a newborn, and a funky personalised tee or tracky top will show off a cool name to perfection, whatever your age.

personalised-kids-tshirtSick to the back teeth of all the usual present ideas for kids? Want something that’s fun and original? Whether it’s for your own child, a friend or a nobody-else-will-get-this gift for a newborn, one of our personalised kids t-shirts could be just the ticket. The only challenge will be picking the colour and the text!

Whether your kid’s a budding Beckham, or you just want to be able to pick them out in the playground, these football-style personalised t-shirts make great gifts, and when it comes to standing out from the crowd, they’re hands-down winners.

The 100% cotton personalised baby tees go from newborn through to 2-4 years, and come in a gorgeous rainbow of great shades. Choose from white, pink, blue and red in the long-sleeved style, and navy, white, punky yellow, chocolate, punky pink, punky blue, red and black in the short-sleeved version. Just decide the number and name you’d like on the t-shirt, and you’ve got yourself a corker of a present for a pocket-friendly £15.99.

And if you’re looking to add that all-important personal touch to a kids’ party, and earn yourself the coveted crown of Party Planner Extraordinaire in the process, why not try one of these great party planning ideas:

  • Print out a montage of pictures of the birthday boy or girl, and use it to wrap their gifts.
  • Let party guests decorate their own party bags – set out a table with a stack of white paper gift bags, and leave out pens, glitter, glue and a veritable array of other crafting goodies.
  • Make birthday bunting to celebrate the guest of honour. Staple paper triangles to a length of ribbon and spell out their name. Or take it one step further and string up a selection of favourite pictures of them.
  • Get everyone involved in cake decorating with a ‘decorate your own cupcake’ stand. Some bowls of different coloured royal icing, and a selection of must-have sprinkles are all kids needs to get creative (and messy)!

IT’S IN THE BAG!

May 5th, 2011

We’ve sniffed the waft of freshly cut grass and heard the tinny wind-up chimes of ice cream vans so…. summer must’ve finally arrived!   It is the season for picnics in the park, ambling country walks and lukewarm bottled drinks and to celebrate, we’ve added some funky toddler bags to our collection for little adventurers everywhere.

Kids love to feel grown-up and independent and our cool kids bags by Littlelife fit the bill perfectly. Designed exclusively by Littlelife, we have six toddler daysacks cunningly disguised as animals which may well be the funkiest bags on the planet!  The Bee, Cow, Ladybird, Shark, Spider and Butterfly designs offer toddlers a fun accessory but which also provides the practicality required for outings.

Each bag houses a detachable safety rein in the top zip compartment that slips onto the parents’ wrist which simply zips away when not required.  The Bee, Cow, Ladybird, Shark, and Spider designs also feature a foldaway water-resistant hood for unexpected showers: the furry Littlelife Animal daysack with the yellow/black Bee design features a bee antennae; the cow daysack features a pair of cow print ears – how moooooovarlous; the ladybird daysack a large printed eye; the finned shark daysack  a printed teeth baring a snarl Jaws would fear and as for the grey furry spider daysack,  some printed eyes – eeeeekkkkkkkkkk!!! At Nappy Head, we simply love the detail on these funky little bags!

Suitable from age 6 months to 4 years, the padded straps are fully adjustable with a capacity of about 2 litres – large enough for all those essentials e.g. small drink, sweets, biscuits and more sweets! And to top it all off, the Littlelife bags even have an internal name and address tag!

These treats from Littlelife are a firm favourite with the Nappy Head crew and teaming them with one of our cool slogan t-shirts for your little adventurers will definitely make your toddler stand out from the crowd.
